Our company laptops (HP 640G) are euqipped with these, not a single week passes without someone appearing with a faulty HDD to swap. Little over one year mine died as well.
Interestingly no issues at all with Hitachi drives used by the same people in the same laptops...
Every manufacturers can have better or worse series, I'd rather not say to stay away from Toshiba drives, but avoid these 500GB drives for sure! Not mentioning the fact that they are very-very slow...

While ago I bought laptop with this HDD and it was slow and freezing before i found out that it have bad sectors.

Bought this computer one year ago, then suddenly the hard drive states it is about to fail and to back up all files. No viruses or malware involved. Unable to back up files due to corrupt hard drive.

Same problem here. After using my laptop for just over a year, my HD crashed. Now, I am going to purchase a different HD and hope that it'll last longer than the one Toshiba installed.
